Solstice weekend in Occitania: bargain hunting from Souillac to the Cerdagne

By Christophe Contard — Éditeur web indépendant

Saint John's and Fete de la Musique weekend: a big car-boot sale in Souillac, the cobbled lanes of Lautrec and hunting at 1,309 m in Saillagouse open our Occitania pick.

The Occitania flea-market agenda for the weekend of 20 and 21 June 2026 lands right on the solstice: between the Fete de la Musique and Saint John's Day, village committees, parent associations and sports clubs are unpacking their boxes all over the region. From the big sports ground in Souillac to the town-hall gardens of Saillagouse, perched at 1,309 metres, here are eleven hunting events spread across seven departments, from the Lot's Quercy to the Catalan reaches of the Cerdagne.

A solstice weekend when Occitania unpacks in style

Third Sunday of June, the longest day of the year: the calendar is firmly on the hunters' side. Many village-committee car-boot sales pick this Saint John's weekend for their big annual edition, and the Fete de la Musique on 21 June adds its soundtrack to the hunt. Our favourites sit at two opposite ends: the big Souillac car-boot sale, a sprawling summer event in the heart of the touristy Lot, and the Lautrec flea market, which takes over the cobbled lanes of one of France's Most Beautiful Villages. In between: a musical car-boot sale on the Canal du Midi, mountain hunting in the Cerdagne and genuine village gems in Gascony. Where to head first? Here is our overview.

Souillac: the Lot's big summer car-boot sale (46)

On Sunday 21 June, the Georges Pivaudran sports ground in Souillac, on route de Sarlat, hosts the town's big car-boot sale, run by Sandrine. Around sixty private sellers lay out clothing, household items, toys, books and small furniture in one of the liveliest towns of the touristy Lot, between the Dordogne and the Quercy causses. Free entry for visitors. The wide, easily reached site makes it an ideal base for a morning of hunting before heading off to the nearby sites of the Dordogne valley. Note that the Souillac Tennis Club holds its own car-boot sale on the same day at the games field, so you can keep finding bargains without leaving town.

Lautrec: hunting in one of France's Most Beautiful Villages (81)

On Sunday 21 June, the medieval village of Lautrec, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and capital of pink garlic, hosts its big annual flea market. Around 150 sellers set up in the cobbled lanes and around the covered market, for a hunting day that epitomises the Pays de Cocagne. The setting makes all the difference: you wander between half-timbered houses, the hilltop windmill and producers' stalls, with hunting blending into the flavours of the Tarn countryside. An event where the find comes with a real heritage stroll, a few kilometres from Castres. Free entry.

Couffouleux: more than 100 sellers at the gates of Gaillac (81)

Also on Sunday 21 June, the Moussoulars district of Couffouleux hosts its traditional neighbourhood car-boot sale along the greenway. From 8am to 6pm, more than 100 private sellers unpack in a friendly summer atmosphere, driven by the local residents' association. It is one of the largest formats in the area this Sunday, at the gates of Gaillac and Rabastens: generous aisles, varied stalls and plenty to fill the boot before the afternoon heat. A well-honed local car-boot sale, ideal for methodical hunters who like to rummage at their own pace in the Tarn vineyards.

Lescure-d'Albigeois: the Restos du Cœur charity hunt (81)

On Sunday 21 June, the Restos du Cœur of the Tarn run their big charity car-boot sale at the Leclerc supermarket car park in Lescure-d'Albigeois, on the doorstep of Albi. Around a hundred private sellers exhibit in aid of the association and its work with the most vulnerable. The spirit differs from ordinary car-boot sales: here, hunting becomes a useful gesture, and every good deal supports a cause. The vast car park can welcome a large number of stalls in good conditions. A fine way to pair the pleasure of the find with solidarity, a stone's throw from the Albi episcopal city.

Lombez: Saint John's Day takes over the whole episcopal town (32)

On Sunday 21 June, the Saint John's car-boot sale takes over the entire village of Lombez, a former episcopal town of the Gers Savès. From 8am to 5pm, the streets and squares turn into a huge hunting ground: stalls stretch out at the foot of Sainte-Marie cathedral and along the shopping streets, in the festive mood of Saint John's Day. Sellers and visitors gather for a day where hunting marries heritage — octagonal bell tower, Gascon pink brick and old lanes. Free entry. A generous town-centre format, perfect for combining a stroll, browsing and the discovery of a little-known Gers bastide.

Aignan: the Bas-Armagnac flea market (32)

On Sunday 21 June, Les Puces d'Aignan take over the place du Colonel Parisot and rue Saint-Saturnin of this charming Bas-Armagnac village. For its 3rd edition, held on the back of the success of previous years, the event gathers dealers and private sellers for a day of hunting in an authentic village setting. From 8am to 6pm, free entry. In the heart of the Armagnac vineyards, this is Gascon hunting at its friendliest: a shaded square, quiet lanes and hunters seeking out regional furniture, knick-knacks and curiosities. A young but already established summer event, to pair with a getaway between bastides and brandy cellars.

Montesquieu-Lauragais: hunting to music on the Canal du Midi (31)

On Sunday 21 June, the day of the Fete de la Musique, the musical car-boot sale of Montesquieu-Lauragais enlivens this bastide built on the Canal du Midi, 28 km south-east of Toulouse. From 6.30am to 5pm, private sellers take over the former medieval town, beneath the chestnut tree on the village square. The concept fits the date perfectly: hunting happens to the sound of live music, in a remarkable historic setting of the Lauragais. Free entry. A hybrid format between car-boot sale and festival that breaks from the usual flea markets and will appeal to anyone who likes to pair a good deal with the festive solstice mood, beside the UNESCO-listed canal.

Saillagouse: hunting at 1,309 metres facing the Pyrenees (66)

On Sunday 21 June, the Saillagouse car-boot sale takes place in the town-hall gardens of this historic capital of the French Cerdagne. At 1,309 metres of altitude, the event gathers around twenty private sellers in an exceptional setting, facing the Pyrenean peaks. Clothing, toys, china, books, vinyls and mountain bric-a-brac sit side by side in the atmosphere of a high-altitude village. The trip is worth as much for the hunt as for the backdrop: bright Cerdagne sunshine, clean air and a panorama of the summits. A gem for hunters who like to pair the find with the fresh air of the Catalan Pyrenees, far from the bustle of the coastal markets.

Galan: hunting in the heart of a medieval bastide (65)

On Sunday 21 June, the ADMR car-boot sale of the Galan area takes place on the place de la Bastide, in the heart of this former medieval bastide of the Hautes-Pyrénées, brought into the French crown in 1315. Galan, with its fortifications, half-timbered houses and Saint-Julien-de-Brioude church, is one of the department's four historic bastides. Sellers unpack at the foot of this heritage, in an authentic village atmosphere. Pitches at 3 € per linear metre, in aid of the ADMR's local work. A human-scale hunt, in a setting of stone and timber that gives the Bigorre foothills all their charm.

Martel: the Twinning Committee flea market in the town of seven towers (46)

On Sunday 21 June, the Martel-Nassogne Twinning Committee runs its big flea market and car-boot sale on the place de la Fontanelle in Martel. Between 50 and 100 sellers, mostly private, offer their finds from 8am to 5.30pm: furniture, china, books, knick-knacks and household items. Refreshments, toilets and parking on site, free entry. The setting is striking — Martel, the "town of seven towers", is one of the finest medieval towns of the Haut-Quercy, with its 18th-century covered market and lanes of pale stone. A perfect rendez-vous to combine hunting with a heritage discovery in the heart of the Martel causse.

Barry-d'Islemade: hunt in the morning, Saint John's bonfire at night (82)

On Saturday 20 June, the Saint John's car-boot sale sets up on the village square of Barry-d'Islemade, the only event of our selection in the Tarn-et-Garonne. Run by the parents' association, it belongs to the great tradition of solstice festivals in the South-West: you hunt from the morning between the village stalls, then carry the day through to the Saint John's bonfire after dark. A friendly, family format that blends bargains, food and dancing around the fire. A neighbourly car-boot sale with a festive spirit, ideal for opening the weekend as early as Saturday in the Garonne plain, between Montauban and the confluence of the Tarn.
