Flea market of the Martel-Nassogne Twinning Committee — Place de la Fontanelle, Martel
Martel (46600) is twinned with Nassogne, a Belgian municipality in the province of Luxembourg (Wallonia). This Franco-Belgian twinning is an opportunity for regular cultural exchanges between the two communities. The Martel-Nassogne Twinning Committee, responsible for maintaining and developing this bond of friendship, organizes a large flea market and car boot sale each year, which is one of its main events of the year.
The flea market is held on the Place de la Fontanelle, one of Martel's main gathering spaces, also used as a car park outside of events. This open space can accommodate between 50 and 100 exhibitors, mostly individuals, who offer their second-hand items in a wide variety: clothing, toys, dishes, books, small furniture, trinkets, and various curiosities.
The international dimension of this twinning gives the flea market a special character. The funds collected contribute to financing trips and exchanges between Martel and Nassogne, allowing residents of both towns to meet and share their respective cultures. Participating in this flea market also means contributing to the vitality of this cross-border partnership.
A refreshment stand and catering are available on site, as well as restrooms and parking nearby. The flea market also takes place in the morning with the presence of the local market. The atmosphere is that of large village flea markets: relaxed, friendly, with good deals to be found for avid bargain hunters.
