Montesquieu-Lauragais, formerly called Montesquieu-sur-le-Canal, is a commune of 1,035 inhabitants located on the Canal du Midi, 28 km south-east of Toulouse. The bastide developed around a feudal castle at the beginning of the 10th century and today retains its remarkable historical center with its medieval streets. The village is crossed by the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
