The popular festival of Lamothe-Montravel is one of the oldest and most emblematic events in the south of Dordogne. For over 58 editions, this August 15th gathering has brought together hundreds of visitors at the Parc de la Gare for a day combining flea market, culture, and gastronomy. The car boot sale, stretching along the rue de la Gare, forms the commercial heart of this summer festival.
From 8 am to 6 pm, private stalls line the rue de la Gare, offering crockery, trinkets, clothing, books, toys, and everyday items at low prices. Pitches, charged at €2 per meter, attract a large number of exhibitors. Entry is free for visitors, who can wander freely between the stalls while enjoying the festival's entertainment.
Beyond the car boot sale, the August 15th festival offers a bookstall for second-hand book lovers, children's games, a refreshment stand, and a fast-food service. The gastronomic highlight is the lunchtime meal, offered at €20 per person, which brings together guests and bargain hunters around local specialties. This combination of bargain hunting, culture, and conviviality makes the Lamothe-Montravel festival a unique event in Périgord Pourpre.
Lamothe-Montravel is a wine-producing commune of about 400 inhabitants located in the extreme southwest of Dordogne, on the right bank of the Dordogne river, opposite the Saint-Émilion vineyard. The Montravel terroir, one of the oldest appellations in the Southwest, produces quality dry, sweet, and red wines. The commune is also known for its prehistoric heritage, with the decorated cave of Pair-non-Pair nearby. The Parc de la Gare, which hosts the festival, is a shaded area conducive to summer gatherings.
