From the antique dealers of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to the marine flea market of Saint-Cast, twelve hunting picks across France for the July 4-5, 2026 weekend.
The first weekend of July truly opens the hunting season: villages set out their trestle tables, professional antique dealers display their finest pieces and festivities committees take over squares and stadiums before the great summer migration. In all this abundance, knowing where to park on Saturday morning is the hard part.
So I have combed through our regional picks to pull out twelve events worth the drive, from the banks of the Sorgue to the harbour of the Arguenon, from a Berry chateau to the ramparts of a Franche-Comte town. The point isn't to do everything but to choose by the mood of the day: an antiques market of European renown, a 400-seller car-boot sale, a brocante at the foot of a royal abbey, or a Picardy yard sale tucked into a medieval village. To each region its own hunting ground.
The Sunday brocante market of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the antiques capital (Provence-French Riviera)
Sunday July 5, as it does every Sunday, the L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue brocante market lays out its stalls on avenue des 4 Otages, from 9am to 6pm. Dozens of professional antique dealers set up furniture, paintings, lighting and curiosities along the Sorgue, at the foot of the famous water wheels. It is my prestige pick of the weekend: the Vaucluse town is quite simply the third antiques hub in Europe, behind London and Saint-Ouen. You come as much for the quality of the pieces as for the setting, between canals and plane trees. Arrive in the morning and plan for the day: you wander here without noticing time pass, a terrace coffee included.
The Puces de Metz, France's second-biggest flea market (Grand Est)
Saturday July 4, early on, the Puces de Metz open, as every Saturday, the hangar of the Metz Metropole exhibition park, rue de la Grange aux Bois. With more than 150 professional sellers and some 150,000 visitors a year, it is nothing less than the second regular flea market in France after Saint-Ouen, faithful to its post since 1978. The indoor format has a major advantage: you hunt under cover, whatever the Lorraine sky. Furniture, crockery, vinyl, trinkets and collectors' items line the aisles of a place where regulars know you must arrive early to grab the best deals.
The Open-Air Day yard sale of Mezangers, hunting in the Mayenne countryside (Pays de la Loire)
Sunday July 5, Mezangers hosts its Open-Air Day yard sale, run by the festivities committee of this rural town in the north of the Mayenne. With 200 to 250 sellers, it is one of the area's major hunting events, in a department rarely mentioned that nonetheless deserves the detour. The formula pairs a yard sale with outdoor activities for a full day of conviviality. Private sellers and enthusiasts unpack clothing, toys, crockery and furniture in the easy-going mood of the bocage. A good family plan to open summer on the Mayenne side, far from the crowds of the big coastal sales.
The Farfouille de Flacheres, 400 sellers in Bievre-Valloire (Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes)
Sunday July 5, the Farfouille de Flacheres spreads across the village stadium in the Isere with more than 400 sellers, making it one of the largest yard sales in the Bievre-Valloire area. Run by the festivities committee and the Flach'rando-loisirs association every first Sunday of July, the event marked its 40th edition in 2024: the longevity of a fixture solidly anchored in the Dauphine calendar. The volume guarantees variety, from farmhouse furniture to antique toys via tools and bric-a-brac. You come with the morning ahead of you, good shoes and a little cash, for a festive and friendly day of hunting.
The Grande Brocante de Sommieres, hunting in a Gard medieval town (Occitania)
Sommieres returns this weekend with its Grande Brocante et Vide-Grenier, one of its four major events of the year (April, July, August and October). On the Esplanade Frederic Mistral, some 400 pitches gather professionals and private sellers from across the region, from 6am and with no booking. The setting matters a great deal: you hunt in the heart of a Gard medieval town, on the banks of the Vidourle. Furniture, brocante, yard-sale goods and objects of all kinds follow one another along the long shaded esplanade. Combine it with a wander through the lanes and under the arcades of the old town, ideally before the Languedoc afternoon heat.
The 31st Nostalgies Celloises, hunting in the Royal Abbey park (New Aquitaine)
Sunday July 5, the Nostalgies Celloises celebrate their 31st edition in the park of the Royal Abbey of Celles-sur-Belle, a listed historic monument, in the Deux-Sevres. For more than thirty years this large brocante and yard sale has been one of the flagship summer events in the department. The setting makes all the difference: you hunt for old objects, furniture, collections and curiosities at the foot of a remarkable monastic ensemble, in the heart of the Mellois. Families, hunters and collectors mingle in a relaxed summer atmosphere. For anyone who likes to pair hunting with heritage, it is one of the loveliest stops of the weekend in Poitou.

Sunday July 5, the 3CR association runs its foire a tout on the emblematic place de la Pucelle, in the very historic heart of Rouen, along the rues aux Ours and de la Vicomte. The setting is exceptional: you hunt a stone's throw from the cathedral and the pedestrian streets of old Rouen, in the lively urban mood of the Normandy capital. Private sellers and dealers lay out vintage items, crockery, clothing and trinkets. It is the place to aim for if you want to pair hunting with a heritage stroll, between half-timbered houses and old facades. Extend it with a detour to the Gros-Horloge and the nearby place du Vieux-Marche.

Sunday July 5, the Puces Marines take over the harbour of Notre-Dame du Guildo, on the banks of the Arguenon estuary, in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo. Here is my gem of the weekend: an unusual flea market where around thirty sellers offer nothing but maritime gear, lobster pots, ropes, buoys, anchors, propellers and other rigging treasures. Run by the La Mouette du Guildo association and the festivities committee, the event has real charm for anyone who loves marine objects and seaside decor. The setting, facing the water and the Cotes-d'Armor coast, is worth the trip in itself. A one-of-a-kind event, to pair with a walk along the estuary.
The Salon des Curiosites at the Chateau d'Ainay-le-Vieil, hunting in the "Carcassonne of Berry" (Centre-Loire Valley)
Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5, the Salon des Curiosites gathers around thirty antique dealers in the historic rooms of the Chateau d'Ainay-le-Vieil, nicknamed the "Carcassonne of Berry" for its fortified walls. For two days, the Salle des Archers, the Salle des Equipages, the Sellerie and the courtyard host stands of antiques, brocante and garden decor. Hunting here means stepping into a medieval monument rarely opened to this kind of event, in the south of the Cher. The contrast between the old stones and the dealers' fine pieces is the whole appeal of this discreet yet refined salon. Combine it with a visit to the chateau and its gardens.
The Rederie de Lucheux, Picardy hunting in a medieval village (Hauts-de-France)
Sunday July 5, the traditional Lucheux rederie sets up in the town-hall park, with around forty private sellers. The word "rederie" is typical of Picardy: it refers to these big days of hunting among residents, and this one has a rare asset. Lucheux is indeed a medieval village ranked among the most picturesque in the north of the Somme, with its fortified castle, its belfry tower and its listed historic church. Hunting here means pairing a rural flea market with the discovery of exceptional heritage. The human scale makes it a quiet stop, far from the big sales, for a morning of strolling in the north of the department.
The Grande Braderie d'Ete of Besancon, two days of festivities in the loop (Burgundy-Franche-Comte)
Friday July 3 and Saturday July 4, the centre of Besancon turns into a huge festive market for its Grande Braderie d'Ete. More than 200 traders and sellers take over the emblematic streets, Grande Rue, rue des Granges, rue Moncey, and the places Granvelle and Pasteur, for two days of street sale, local crafts and entertainment. Free and popular, it is one of the most anticipated events of the Besancon summer. The braderie blends traders' bargains, brocante and street atmosphere in the historic heart of the Franche-Comte capital, nestled in its loop of the Doubs at the foot of the citadel. Best hunted on Saturday, wandering down toward the quays.

Sunday July 5, the Belle Brocante Vide-Grenier du Centre-Ville gathers 150 sellers in the historic centre of La Ferte-Alais, in the Essonne, from 5am to 4pm. Run by BROC EVENEMENTS every first Sunday of July, it mixes private sellers and professionals in the streets of this medieval town, at the gateway to the Gatinais forest. My Paris-region pick of the weekend: less than an hour from Paris, you hunt far from the tarmac, in a town known to aviation buffs for its Cerny airfield. Furniture, brocante and yard-sale goods make for a varied offer. A good plan for hunters from the south of the Paris region who don't mind starting the day very early.
