Each year, on the last Sunday of July, the village of Rougemont transforms into a huge treasure market. La Grande Fouille is one of the most important and popular flea markets in all of Eastern France, a true institution that brings together over 350 exhibitors along nearly 3 kilometers of town center streets. Amateurs looking to clear out their attics and professional flea market dealers mingle in a festive and popular atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors every summer.
Founded over forty years ago, La Grande Fouille has become the unmissable summer rendezvous for treasure hunters from Franche-Comté, Alsace, Burgundy, and Switzerland. You can find everything: antique furniture and objects, tableware and glassware, vinyl records and cassettes, books and comics, old toys and games, tools, clothing, trinkets, works of art, and collector's items. The diversity of exhibitors guarantees a walk rich in discoveries and surprises at every turn.
The entire old town of Rougemont is transformed for the occasion. The streets of the center are adorned with endless stalls, creating a maze of flea market finds where it's easy to get lost for hours. The locals themselves participate in the event, transforming their facades and doorsteps into exhibition spaces. The atmosphere is unique, blending the Comtois architecture of the houses with the colorful abundance of the treasures on display.
The event starts very early in the morning, from 6 a.m., allowing the earliest treasure hunters to find the best items before the day's crowds. The flea market ends around 4 p.m., leaving enough time for a complete visit even for those arriving in the morning. Food and drink are available on-site for exhibitors and visitors. Admission is €2 for visitors, a symbolic price given the scale of the event.
Rougemont is a village in the Doubs region, located about forty kilometers northeast of Besançon, in the natural region of the sub-Vosges plain. Its geographical location, close to the Haute-Saône department and an hour from the major cities of Franche-Comté, makes it an ideal stop for treasure hunters from all over the region. The village retains interesting architectural heritage, including its castle and church, which provide a historic backdrop for La Grande Fouille.
The 44th Grande Fouille de Rougemont will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Over 350 amateur and professional exhibitors will set up their stalls along nearly 3 kilometers of Rougemont's village center streets, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission €2 for visitors. The largest flea market in Franche-Comté and Eastern France.
