On Sunday, September 20, 2026, the wine village of Vouvray opens its streets and its public school to its back-to-school flea market, one of the major events on the Touraine calendar, where professionals and private sellers meet side by side. A shared back-to-school mood. End-of-summer flea markets and antique fairs fill Centre-Val de Loire the same weekend, from the Cher to the Loiret, between heritage-site fairs, village festivals and specialist markets.

Vouvray, a wine village known worldwide, holds one of the major events on the Touraine calendar every September. A back-to-school ritual. The event spreads through the village streets and into the public school, where professional dealers set up for the day alongside private sellers clearing out an attic and browsers arriving from across Touraine.

The turnout, counted in the thousands, confirms Vouvray's place among the leading back-to-school gatherings in Indre-et-Loire. Unlike the monthly flea markets of Sancerre or Chinon, it comes round only once a year. A once-a-year gathering.
The rest of the weekend
Three other large gatherings sit in a remarkable setting. In Sancerre, the flea market brings together professional and private sellers from 8am to 6pm on the Rempart des Dames, a panoramic walk overlooking the Loire valley and the Sancerre vineyard, free entry. A free view over the vineyard. Eight am to six pm, every month. Entry stays free. In Chinon, every third Sunday of the month, about 75 professional dealers of the Rabelaisienne flea market line up under the plane trees of the Promenade des Docteurs Mattrais, on the banks of the Vienne, with antique furniture, earthenware and decorative pieces. In Montargis, every third Sunday of September, over 300 private sellers at the autumn flea market of the ARCM line the banks of the Lac des Closiers with no booking required, free entry, food provided by the organisers. Three festivals combine a flea market with entertainment. In Épernon, the Saint-Fiacre car boot sale fills the avenue de la Prairie and the rue Bourgeoise from 8am to 5:30pm, as part of the Saint-Fiacre funfair, with concerts and a stunt show, organised by the Entente Basket Épernon/Gallardon. In Braye-sous-Faye, a small village in the Richelais area, a two-day car boot sale fills the village hall with international food stalls, a bouncy castle for children and a concert on Saturday evening. Three last gatherings target a more specific crowd. In Luisant, in the Chartres area, the Seamstresses' flea market brings together some fifty sellers every September, of fabric, thread, buttons and haberdashery. Old fabric, thread and buttons. In Viglain, the famous black-pudding fair comes with a car boot sale mixing a bar, food and a flea market between professional and private sellers, a one-of-a-kind food festival in the Loiret.
