May 8th car boot sale in a former fortified village in northern Aveyron, at the foot of the medieval arcades square
The Privezac Car Boot Sale is an annual event organized on the public holiday of May 8th in this small fortified village in northern Aveyron, nestled between the valleys of Ségala and the Montbazens plateau. Organized by the FRER association, the event takes over the center of the village with its medieval arcades for a day of friendly and popular treasure hunting. At 500 meters altitude, Privezac is a former seigniorial village whose castle, once one of the most beautiful in Rouergue with its 365 windows, was destroyed by fire. The village nevertheless retains its arcaded square and its authentic rural character, between rolling pastures and chestnut forests. The pitch is offered at a price of 8 euros per stand, with a 185 cm table and 3 meters of free space. Registration requires mandatory reservation by phone.
Every May 8th, the village of Privezac hosts its traditional car boot sale, an event organized by the FRER association that brings together individuals and treasure hunters in a warm and family atmosphere. The car boot sale is set up in the heart of this small village in northern Aveyron, offering visitors the opportunity to stroll among the stalls while enjoying the charm of a village with preserved medieval architecture. From 8 am to 5 pm, the aisles come alive with all sorts of finds: antique tableware, books and magazines, clothes, toys, trinkets, garden tools, and second-hand furniture.
Perched at nearly 500 meters altitude on the foothills of Ségala, Privezac is a former fortified village of Rouergue whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. The village is famous for its lost castle, once considered one of the most beautiful in Rouergue, which had no less than 365 windows before being ravaged by flames. Although the castle no longer exists, the village retains its superb arcaded square, a typical architectural feature of medieval villages in Aveyron, where residents still gather on Sunday mornings. The parish church, stone alleys, and old houses complete this remarkable village heritage.
The municipality of Privezac covers 1,109 hectares of rolling landscapes, including hedged pastures, chestnut woods, and small streams. Seven watercourses cross the municipal territory, including the Alzou, contributing to the ecological richness of this preserved corner of Aveyron. The municipality borders the Regional Natural Park of Causses du Quercy, offering an exceptional natural setting for hiking and nature lovers. Nearby villages such as Peyrusse-le-Roc, with its spectacular medieval remains just 10 km away, the Renaissance Château de Bournazel, and the listed village of Belcastel make this part of northern Aveyron a top heritage destination.
The Privezac car boot sale offers the diversity characteristic of rural Aveyron events. Private stalls are filled with tableware and kitchen items, books and comics, clothing and accessories for the whole family, toys and board games, DIY and gardening tools, antique furniture, and decorative trinkets. Savvy treasure hunters know they need to arrive early, right at opening time at 8 am, to find the best deals before the crowds. The relaxed, village atmosphere of Privezac, far from the hustle and bustle of large urban flea markets, is what makes this event so charming, where people take the time to chat and bargain.
Individuals wishing to exhibit at the Privezac car boot sale can register with the FRER association. Each pitch includes a 185 cm table and 3 meters of free space (2 meters deep), offered at a price of 8 euros per stand. Reservation is mandatory and must be made by phone. Exhibitor setup begins at 7 am, and presence is required until the end of the event at 5 pm. Entry is free for visitors, who can come and hunt for treasures freely throughout the day.
The Privezac Car Boot Sale returns on Friday, May 8, 2026, in this medieval village in northern Aveyron. Private stalls from 8 am to 5 pm, free entry, pitch at €8 upon reservation. Organized by the FRER association.
