The oldest flea market in Aveyron, reserved for professionals, on the Place du Couvent and Place du Foirail
The Foire à la Brocante de Lanuéjouls is the oldest flea market in the Aveyron department. Created in 1977, it is held every year on the first Wednesday of August on the Place du Couvent and Place du Foirail, in the heart of this village on the Montbazens plateau. Reserved exclusively for professionals - flea market dealers, antique dealers, and art merchants - this benchmark market brings together between 50 and 100 exhibitors offering antique furniture, art objects, earthenware, silverware, paintings, old books, and curiosities of all kinds. Open continuously from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., admission is free for visitors. Refreshments and catering services are available on site. In 2026, the market celebrates its 50th edition, half a century of flea market tradition in the heart of northern Aveyron.
Since 1977, the Foire à la Brocante de Lanuéjouls has brought together lovers of antique objects and collectors every first Wednesday of August on the Place du Couvent and Place du Foirail in this Aveyron village. Founded nearly half a century ago, this event is recognized as the oldest flea market in the Aveyron department, a title that testifies to its deep roots in the local community and the loyalty of an audience from all over Rouergue and beyond.
What distinguishes the Lanuéjouls market from ordinary car boot sales and flea markets is its requirement for professionalism. The event is strictly reserved for professional flea market dealers, antique dealers, and merchants, guaranteeing visitors a quality and authentic offering. Between 50 and 100 exhibitors invest the village's two squares each year, offering a remarkable range of antique objects: period and rustic furniture, silverware, earthenware and ceramics, paintings and prints, old books, jewelry and watches, lighting fixtures, folk art objects, and curiosities from all eras. Stall prices, set at 4.50 euros per linear meter at the front, reflect the accessible and friendly nature of this village market.
Lanuéjouls (12350) is a commune of about 760 inhabitants located on the Montbazens plateau, in northern Aveyron, 16 kilometers from Villefranche-de-Rouergue and 38 kilometers from Rodez. Perched at an altitude of about 517 meters, the village takes its name from a Gaulish root meaning 'clearing in the plain'. Its history dates back to the 11th century, when the priory of Saint-Baudile, an annex of Montbazens, depended on the abbey of Saint-Géraud d'Aurillac. The current church, rebuilt from 1842 in a neoclassical style, overlooks the two squares that host the market. Lanuéjouls is also home to the Club Ferroviaire du Pays de l'Alzou, a model railway museum that delights miniature train enthusiasts.
The market unfolds over two emblematic squares of the village: the Place du Couvent, named after the former priory, and the Place du Foirail, the historic site of the village's fairs and markets. These two adjacent spaces form a vast perimeter conducive to strolling among the professional stalls. Visitors wander from one stall to another, negotiate with seasoned merchants, and savor the unique atmosphere of this open-air market, between the pleasure of discovery and the conviviality of exchanges. The refreshment stand and catering service on site allow visitors to extend their day pleasantly.
The Foire à la Brocante de Lanuéjouls attracts a crowd of bargain hunters, collectors, and lovers of fine pieces every year, coming from all over Aveyron, Lot, Tarn, and even further afield. Holidaymakers staying in the region take the opportunity to discover this authentic event, far from the standardized flea markets of large cities. The enthusiasm for quality professional flea markets, which are becoming increasingly rare, remains strong, and the Lanuéjouls market embodies this living tradition of trading antique objects in a rural setting. From the morning onwards, queues of cars form on the outskirts of the village, testifying to the event's reputation and attractiveness.
