Swap of plants, seeds, and gardening tools among enthusiasts in the heart of the Plateau de Montbazens
The Swap, Donations, Exchanges around the Lanuéjouls Garden is an annual spring event organized by the association Vivre à Lanuéjouls, in Aveyron. Every April, the Foyer Charles Maurel hosts amateur and experienced gardeners, lovers of plants and nature, for a friendly morning dedicated to exchange and sharing around the garden. Plants, seedlings, perennials, aromatic plants, shrubs, cuttings, seeds, gardening tools, equipment, tips and tricks, recipes: everything is given, swapped, and passed on in a spirit of generosity and sharing. An event rooted in the local life of the Plateau de Montbazens, in the heart of western Rouergue.
Every spring, the Foyer Charles Maurel in Lanuéjouls opens its doors for the Swap, Donations, Exchanges around the Garden, an event organized by the association Vivre à Lanuéjouls. From 10 a.m. to noon, amateur and experienced gardeners, lovers of plants and nature, gather for a morning of sharing and conviviality around the garden. Here, there are no commercial transactions: plants, seedlings, perennials, aromatic plants, shrubs, cuttings, seeds, gardening tools, and equipment are freely given, swapped, and exchanged, along with tips and tricks, recipes, and know-how among neighbors and plant enthusiasts.
Lanuéjouls is a commune of nearly 780 inhabitants located in the Pays de l'Alzou, at the junction of Villefranchois, the Decazeville basin, and the Plateau de Montbazens, in western Rouergue. Perched at an altitude of about 500 meters in the Massif Central, the village benefits from a temperate oceanic climate favorable to gardens and vegetable cultivation. Three rivers cross the commune—the Alzou, the Cureboursot, and the Montagnac—contributing to the natural richness of the territory. The neoclassical church, rebuilt from 1842 on the site of the former priory of Saint-Baudile, dependent on the abbey of Saint-Géraud d'Aurillac, is a remarkable element of local heritage with its rare coffered ceiling. The commune, 16 km from Villefranche-de-Rouergue and 38 km from Rodez, is crossed by numerous hiking trails and offers a pleasant living environment between nature and heritage.
The Lanuéjouls Garden Swap brings together a wide variety of exchanges related to plants and gardening:
The event operates on the principle of donation and exchange: everyone brings what they wish to share and leaves with new varieties, new tools, or valuable advice for their garden.
Founded in 1979, the association Vivre à Lanuéjouls is the driving force behind the cultural, social, and festive life of the commune. Throughout the year, it organizes numerous events that punctuate village life: the Seamstresses' Flea Market in March, the Garden Swap in spring, the renowned Brocante Fair in August (one of the oldest in Aveyron, with nearly 50 editions), the Art and Terroir Christmas Market in December, and the traditional Christmas Concert. Each event testifies to the associative dynamism and the residents' attachment to conviviality and living together on the Plateau de Montbazens.
The Swap, Donations, Exchanges around the Lanuéjouls Garden is part of a tradition of sharing and mutual aid among gardeners that is developing in the rural communes of Aveyron and Occitanie. At a time when the preservation of biodiversity and local varieties is a major concern, this free event open to all allows for the transmission of horticultural knowledge and strengthens bonds between neighbors and garden enthusiasts. A simple, warm event rooted in the values of Rouergue.
Swap, Donations, Exchanges around the Garden on April 25, 2026, at the Foyer Charles Maurel in Lanuéjouls, organized by Vivre à Lanuéjouls. Free exchange of plants, seeds, cuttings, gardening tools from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
