The Saint-Luc fair in Landrecies
The Saint-Luc fair in Landrecies goes back to 1314. On Sunday, October 18, it takes over the Grand'Rue, closed to traffic, with more than 200 exhibitors from 7 am.
For Landrecies, on the banks of the Sambre, it is the oldest and biggest of its festivities. The market runs from morning until the end of the afternoon: local produce, household tools, brocante stalls, and tonnes of garlic cloves.
The programme also includes the livestock fair, an agricultural tradition of the town, and the contest for the most extravagant carrot. Then comes the tripe-and-chips tasting, the gastronomic high point of the fair.

Antique dealers, street sale and makers
On Saturday, the Puces Amiénoises set up in the Jardin Dufau, at the foot of Amiens cathedral, and line up about twenty antique dealers and brocanteurs there from 8 am to 5 pm, all professionals: old furniture, paintings, porcelain, clocks, postcards. Free entry for visitors. Amiens Métropole runs them one Saturday a month, from April to November. The stalls stand in a formal French garden, between tidy paths and centuries-old trees. The same day, from 9 am to 5 pm, the solidarity sale of the Petits Frères des Pauvres fills the former Nydel factory on rue Faidherbe in Hellemmes. It is the third and last of the year, after those of March and June. Volunteers sell what they have collected and sorted all year from private individuals (furniture, crockery, books), in aid of isolated older people in the Lille area.
On Sunday, the autumn street sale in Lens spreads nearly 180 exhibitors across the town-centre streets, from 7 am to 6 pm. Clothes, accessories, decoration and crockery at knock-down prices. Free entry. Private sellers and professionals share the pavements and pedestrian streets, for this counterpart to the spring sale.
In Raillencourt-Sainte-Olle, at the gates of Cambrai, the flea market and makers' market has about 180 exhibitors in streets closed to traffic, from rue des Ardennes to rue de Bourlon. The Club des loisirs runs it. The Tordoir hall shelters some twenty artists and makers, between « Art & Toiles » and « Au fil et à l'aiguille », with comic-book collectors, while children ride ponies and food lovers find churros, crêpes and Cambrésis specialities.
