Bargain hunting to the rhythm of the threshing festival in the Gaillacois
Every summer, the hamlet of Saint-Maurice, in the commune of Peyrole at the heart of the Gaillac vineyard, hosts its traditional flea market as part of the threshing festival. Around 50 private exhibitors display their treasures on the hamlet's square, accompanied by a local producers' market and craft animations. An authentic rural Tarn rendezvous, combining bargain hunting, peasant traditions and terroir flavours.
Peyrole is a small rural commune of northwestern Tarn, nestled between Gaillac and Salvagnac on the gentle hills of the Gaillac vineyard. Its Saint-Maurice hamlet, long a stage on Gaillacois rural paths, preserves a village soul. In this bucolic setting, to the rhythm of old tractors, the festival committee organises each summer its flea market and threshing festival, a true summer highlight of the local calendar.
What distinguishes this flea market from many others is its integration into an authentic threshing festival. Organised by traditional agriculture enthusiasts, this festival revives the harvest gestures of yesteryear: threshing demonstrations with old threshers, exhibition of period farm machinery, draft horses, milling work. The flea market, set up nearby, extends this rural and heritage atmosphere.
Around 50 exhibitors, mostly locals from Gaillacois and Salvagnacois villages, display the typical inventory of rural flea markets: antique furniture, tableware, tools, clothing, toys, records, books, curios. The producers' market and local crafts complete the day with cheeses, Gaillac wines, charcuterie, honeys, jams and artisan creations.
With free admission, around 50 exhibitors, gourmet market, agricultural demonstrations and food on site from 8am to 6pm, this threshing festival flea market is one of the most delightful of the Gaillac vineyard. Ideal for a family Sunday outing.
