The arcades flea market, every first Sunday, under the covered walkways
Every first Sunday of the month, the medieval bastide of Lisle-sur-Tarn hosts its famous "brocante des arcades" beneath the covered walkways of Place Paul Saissac. Around thirty professional antique dealers display antique furniture, crockery, linen, books, paintings and curios in one of the finest settings on the Tarn bastides route.
Founded in the 13th century and a gem of the Gaillac vineyard, Lisle-sur-Tarn has one of the largest arcaded squares in south-west France. It is in this exceptional setting - brick and stone arcades, half-timbered houses, central well - that the monthly flea market known as the "brocante des arcades" is held every first Sunday of the month. A unique rendezvous combining the charm of a medieval bastide with the richness of a well-curated professional brocante.
The flea market gathers around thirty professional exhibitors, set up under the covered walkways and sheltered from the weather. Visitors find antique and vintage furniture, embroidered household linen, porcelain tableware, glass and crystal, paintings, old books, postcards, vinyl records, small clocks, antique jewellery, tools, childhood toys, militaria and various curios. Prices are those of a professional brocante, with fine finds to negotiate early in the morning.
Through its monthly rhythm and the quality of its exhibitors, the Lisle-sur-Tarn flea market has become a key rendezvous for bargain hunters from the Tarn, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne and beyond. Decorators, antique dealers, collectors and lovers of fine pieces come early to catch the first deals. The hushed atmosphere under the arcades invites conversation and strolling.
Once the flea market has been explored, a visit to Lisle-sur-Tarn follows naturally: the wine house, the Raymond Lafage museum, narrow streets, old facades, the banks of the Tarn and the surrounding Gaillac vineyard cellars. Cafés and restaurants on the square, also tucked under the arcades, round off the morning with a glass of Gaillac. The flea market is held year-round, including in high summer, with occasional extra editions on fifth Sundays of the month.
