Village bargain hunting in northwestern Tarn
Tauriac is a small rural commune of around 170 inhabitants, nestled on the Salvagnacois hills in northwestern Tarn. Like many villages in this area, it is associative life that makes the town's heart beat. The festival committee plays an essential role by organising several annual highlights, including this annual flea market.
The flea market is set up on the central square and adjacent streets, taking advantage of the tranquillity and remarkable landscape of the Salvagnacois — wooded hills, vast fields of cereals and sunflowers, pink-brick farmhouses. Exhibitors, almost exclusively private sellers from Tauriac and neighbouring villages (Salvagnac, Mézens, Montdurausse, Montgaillard, Tonnac), offer patinated furniture, rustic tableware, household linen, farming tools, toys, clothing, books and curios.
Far from major urban fairs, this flea market cultivates the village spirit. People come as much to hunt as to meet friends, chat on the square, taste a sausage at the refreshment stand or drink a glass of Gaillac in the sun. The intergenerational dimension is strong.
The Salvagnacois is a beautiful land for exploration. A few kilometres away, the bastide village of Castelnau-de-Montmiral (most beautiful village in France), the Grésigne forest, the perched village of Puycelsi and the Gaillac vineyard offer fine excursions.
Tauriac is about 40 km west of Albi and 35 km southeast of Montauban, accessible via the D999 and Salvagnacois secondary roads. Free parking in the village.
Flea market open to private sellers. Registration with the Tauriac festival committee.
