Spring réderie in a Santerre péronnais village
The Barleux Réderia livens up the village centre on Sunday 10 May 2026. In this rural Santerre péronnais commune near Péronne, the annual réderie brings together private sellers and residents in a warm atmosphere typical of Picard villages. A human-scale rendezvous in the fine tradition of Somme spring réderies, with all the charm of a peaceful village centre mobilised for the occasion.
The Santerre, a major farming region in central-eastern Somme, is an area where spring réderies set the pace of May. Almost every village organises its own, true to this Picard tradition combining flea market, social connection and local liveliness. Barleux, a small commune a few kilometres south-east of Péronne, is no exception: on Sunday 10 May 2026, the village centre becomes an open-air flea market for a friendly hunting day.
Sellers, mostly Barleux residents and neighbouring villagers (Tincourt-Boucly, Brie, Estrées-Mons), set up in the main streets. The village layout, with its Picard houses, church and square, offers an authentic, preserved setting for the réderie. Hunters stroll calmly from stall to stall, taking time to examine items and chat with sellers.
The offering is that of a typical village réderie: family clothing, children's and collector toys, books, records, tableware, glassware, trinkets, small furniture, tools, baby items, decorative items. A few professional or semi-professional dealers sometimes add finer furniture or collectibles. Prices are rural-réderie: modest, negotiable, friendly. Good bargains without hunting for extraordinary finds.
Barleux is a rural Somme commune in the Santerre, 5 km south-east of Péronne. The village, about 300 residents, keeps its church, Picard farms and traditional houses. Like the whole region, Barleux was deeply marked by the First World War: the 1916 Battle of the Somme and the 1918 offensives left their marks. Commonwealth military cemeteries dot the surrounding countryside.
The Barleux réderie, like many Somme village events, plays an important social role. It lets residents meet, associations get known, newcomers meet neighbours, and younger generations discover this Picard hunting tradition. It's also a chance for neighbouring villagers to visit Barleux, and more distant hunters (Amiens, Péronne, Saint-Quentin) to discover this small, often unknown village.
For visitors from further afield, the Barleux Réderia easily combines with a visit to Péronne (Historial de la Grande Guerre, castle, old town), other Santerre réderies, or a Somme valley walk. A full day of Picard hunting and heritage to plan.
