The great Picardy réderie of the Santerre
The Mesnil-Bruntel Grand Annual Réderie is one of the must-see spring events for bargain hunters in the east of the Somme. Organized by the town hall, the event invests each year the streets around the village hall and the Grande rue, welcoming between 50 and 100 private exhibitors from 6 am to 6 pm. A free day of bargain hunting in a Santerre village, at the gates of Péronne.
Mesnil-Bruntel is a village of about 450 inhabitants located in the Santerre, a few kilometers from Péronne and in the immediate vicinity of the A1 interchange. Each year, the community organizes its Grand Annual Réderie, an event that has established itself as an important rendezvous on the bargain hunter's calendar in the east of the Somme. The town hall, leader of the project, mobilizes volunteers and inhabitants to welcome between 50 and 100 private exhibitors who set up in the streets of the center and around the village hall.
From 6 am until 6 pm, the Mesnil-Bruntel réderie deploys its animation in the village streets. Early in the morning, the first bargain hunters arrive with their flashlights — the Picardy tradition of réderies often begins at dawn, to find the best pieces before the crowd. The Grande rue and adjacent streets transform into a long aisle of stands, where private individuals unpack the typical flea market range: old dishware, Northern earthenware, household linen, books, old toys, clothes, records, small furniture, tools, trinkets and sometimes some rarer regional objects.
The Grand Réderie of Mesnil-Bruntel stands out for its completely free access, both for visitors and often for exhibitors, according to the terms set by the town hall. This accessibility policy, combined with the advantageous geographical location of the village (close to the A1 connecting Paris to Lille), explains the important influence of the event: people come from all over the Somme, but also from the Oise, Pas-de-Calais, Nord and even Île-de-France. A true popular and rallying Picardy réderie.
The village is located in the upper Somme valley, in an area particularly marked by the fighting of the First World War. Péronne and its Historial de la Grande Guerre, a reference museum on the 14-18 conflict, are a few kilometers away. Bargain hunters who dedicate their day to the Somme can extend with a visit to this essential museum, or push towards the memorial sites of the Somme Battlefield. A beautiful combination of rural bargain hunting and heritage discovery in a department with such a particular past.
