The place d'Armes sits at the centre of the octagonal fortress.
The rest of the weekend, from Metz to Alsace
On Saturday, November 7, Les Puces de Metz opens from 7 am to noon in a covered hall of the Parc des Expositions. Starting from 90 dealers in 1978, the market now lines up more than 150, all professionals, with free entry and parking. Furniture, trinkets, tableware, silverware, paintings, lamps and military items come mostly from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In Conflans-en-Jarnisy, the first-Saturday flea market brings between 100 and 200 sellers to the church square from 6 am, with a refreshment bar for coffee and sandwiches. Furniture, tableware, vintage clothes, old books and tools mix on the stalls.
On Sunday, under the market hall of Vitry-le-François, the Numi's Club sets out 170 pitches for the Broc de la Halle d'Automne. Furniture, tableware, silverware, paintings, books, toys and collectibles sit side by side under cover. Visitors get in free.
Families have their Sunday too. In Augny, on the southern edge of Metz, the toy and childcare fair fills the village hall from 9 am to 5 pm, free entry. The hall is heated, with parking and toilets. In Breuschwickersheim, ASCB Gym holds its own at the Salle Brik from 9 am to 4 pm, in aid of its gymnastics section, with toys, games, children's and baby clothes, and childcare equipment. In Schwenheim, in the Vosges foothills near Wasselonne, the toys, clothing and childcare sale offers pushchairs, travel cots and car seats, again with no entry fee.
