Annual car boot sale in Saint-Hilaire, a village in Razès known for its abbey and its blanquette
The Saint-Hilaire car boot sale is held every year in this village in Razès, famous for its Carolingian abbey and for being the birthplace of blanquette de Limoux. This summer event enlivens this charming village set amidst vineyards and Aude forests. Free entry, refreshments available on site.
The village of Saint-Hilaire, in the Aude Razès region, is one of those places where history and tradition are intimately intertwined with daily life. Known for its Carolingian abbey — one of the most beautiful in the Aude — and for being the birthplace of blanquette de Limoux, this characterful village hosts a popular car boot sale every summer that attracts locals and passing tourists alike.
Saint-Hilaire enjoys particular renown in the wine world: the monks of its abbey are credited with inventing blanquette de Limoux, a sparkling wine that some claim predates champagne by more than a century, as early as 1531. Whether or not one subscribes to this theory, Saint-Hilaire is part of an exceptional wine region, that of Limoux and its Razès vineyards. The Romanesque abbey, with its famous sarcophagus of Saint Saturnin, is a must-see monument when visiting the village.
The Saint-Hilaire car boot sale takes place in the village, under the shade of the plane trees and at the foot of the abbey. Private sellers from the village and neighboring communes — Cépie, Villar-Saint-Anselme, Rouffiac-d'Aude, Alaigne — offer a wide variety of second-hand items. The historical charm of the village gives the car boot sale a special atmosphere, blending medieval heritage with contemporary rural conviviality. You can find antique furniture, tableware, clothing, books, trinkets, and curiosities of all kinds.
The car boot sale day can be extended by visiting the Saint-Hilaire abbey, which is open for tours, or by exploring the Razès region: the Limoux vineyards, the village of Rennes-le-Château (known for its mystery), the Gorges du Rebenty, or the foothills of the Pyrenees are all invitations to extend your stay in this particularly rich historical and scenic corner of the Aude.
Local volunteers run a refreshment stand throughout the car boot sale. Saint-Hilaire's wine tradition is sometimes reflected in the presence of local wines served at the stand, contributing to a particularly festive and southern atmosphere.
Sellers can register with the town hall. Entry is free for visitors.
