The annual flea market on Saint-Roch street in Jouy-en-Josas
Street flea markets organised at the neighbourhood or specific road level are part of the ÃŽle-de-France landscape. In Jouy-en-Josas, the one at 35 rue Saint-Roch is a fine example: taking over a residential stretch, it offers a neighbourhood atmosphere where locals meet to sell, buy and chat. In late May, residents bring out tables and trestles to offer the results of their spring sorting.
Like any private flea market, this one offers the typical mix that accumulates in homes over the years: adult and children's clothing, toys and games, books and comics, crockery, small appliances, decoration, childcare items, records, DVDs and various bric-Ã -brac. Prices are modest and negotiation is welcome.
Located in the Bièvre valley near Versailles, Palaiseau and Saclay, Jouy-en-Josas offers a preserved village-countryside setting despite its proximity to Paris. Known worldwide for its Toile de Jouy, whose history traces back to the manufactory founded in 1760 by Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf, the commune has rich heritage.
The atmosphere is that of a spring village: coffee and croissants in the morning with the first visitors, friendly bargaining midday, and rest in the shade in late afternoon.
This kind of private flea market, modest but authentic, contributes to neighbourhood vitality and the circulation of goods in a spirit of circular economy.
