Free and solidarity market in the heart of the Ségala aveyronnais, where everyone gives and leaves freely
The Gratiferia de Rignac is a solidarity and eco-responsible event organized each year in the heart of this small town in the Ségala aveyronnais. True to the concept born in Argentina, the gratiferia is based on a simple and radical principle: everyone can bring objects they no longer use and leave freely with what they like, without any exchange of money. Unlike bartering, you don't have to bring something to take an object. This event embodies the values of giving, sharing, and waste reduction, in a town labeled Station Verte and Ville Fleurie three flowers, near the remarkable villages of Belcastel and Bournazel.
The Gratiferia de Rignac is part of the global gratiferia movement, born in Argentina in 2010 under the impetus of Ariel Rodríguez Bosio. The principle is disarmingly simple: everyone brings objects they no longer use and leaves freely with those that interest them, without any financial compensation. Unlike bartering, you don't have to give to receive. This act of collective generosity transforms the relationship with objects and creates a space for sharing open to all, regardless of income.
Beyond the simple redistribution of objects, the Gratiferia de Rignac carries a strong message in favor of responsible consumption and the circular economy. By giving a second life to still functional objects, the event concretely contributes to waste reduction and the fight against waste. Participants are invited to drop off all sorts of everyday objects: clothes, books, dishes, toys, small furniture, decoration, small appliances, on the sole condition that they are clean and in good working order. The atmosphere is friendly and benevolent, in a spirit of solidarity that reflects the values of Rignac's associative life.
Rignac is the capital of the Pays Rignacois, in the heart of the Ségala aveyronnais, a region whose name derives from the Occitan segal (rye), a cereal once omnipresent on the acidic lands of the plateau. Labeled Station Verte since 1979 and Ville Fleurie three flowers, the town combines rural heritage, preserved nature, and associative dynamism. The ethno-botanical trail "Al Travers", 7.5 kilometers long, connects the plateau to the gorges of the Aveyron, crossing remarkable landscapes. The Regional Chestnut Conservatory, located in Rignac, testifies to the importance of this nourishing tree in the culture and economy of the Ségala.
The Pays Rignacois offers an exceptional setting for visitors discovering the Aveyron. The village of Belcastel, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France since 1990, is nestled in the gorges of the Aveyron a few kilometers from Rignac. Its medieval castle, restored with passion by the architect Fernand Pouillon, overlooks a cluster of stone houses that plunge towards the river. The Renaissance castle of Bournazel, another architectural gem of the Pays Rignacois, completes this remarkable heritage. The Mirabel site, in the commune of Rignac, offers a panoramic view of the Aveyron valley and carries the memory of the Du Guesclin maquis, a major site of the Aveyron Resistance.
Participation in the Gratiferia de Rignac is entirely free and voluntary, whether you come to drop off objects or simply browse. No registration is required. Objects deposited must be clean, in good condition, and transportable by hand. The event welcomes all audiences in a spirit of conviviality and generosity, true to the founding principle of the gratiferia: "Everything is free, nothing is mandatory".
