Every year in April, the Nuces media library in Valady opens its doors to host the Bourse aux Livres, organized by the association Joie de Lire. From 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM non-stop, visitors can browse tables filled with carefully sorted used books: novels, thrillers, children's literature, comic books, essays, history books, art books, and works on Aveyron and Occitanie.

The association Joie de Lire, active in the cultural life of Valady, collects books throughout the year from residents and donors to offer a varied and renewed selection at each event. The prices, intentionally modest, allow everyone to leave with an armful of reading material for just a few euros.

Valady and Nuces, in the heart of the Vallon de Marcillac

Valady, whose name means "Ady valley" in reference to the river that crosses the commune, is an old fortified town located on the Way of Saint James of Compostela. In the heart of the Vallon de Marcillac, the commune is home to the cooperative winery of the AOC Marcillac, a renowned vineyard planted on the red soils of the Aveyron Rougier. The village retains beautiful traces of its glorious wine-growing past.

The hamlet of Nuces, where the media library is located, is a place steeped in history with its former priory and its terraces once covered with vines, orchards, and chestnut trees. The sentier des terrasses (terrace path) of Nuces allows hikers to discover this remarkable landscape shaped by centuries of cultivation.

A friendly event for reading

The Bourse aux Livres de Valady is distinguished by its friendly and family atmosphere. Volunteers from the association Joie de Lire welcome visitors with a smile and take the time to advise readers, young and old. The event is also an opportunity for exchanges between reading enthusiasts, in a pleasant setting within the municipal media library.

The profits from the sale are fully donated to the association, which uses them to fund activities around books and reading throughout the year in Valady and the surrounding communes of the Vallon de Marcillac.
