Archigny is a Vienne commune (86210) in Vienne-Gartempe, between Chauvigny (10 min) and Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe (20 min). ~1000 inhabitants, nationally known for Acadian history: in the 18th century, Acadian families expelled from Canada by the British settled here and built the famous Acadian Line, a group of characteristic half-timbered farms. The market fills Place du Commerce, village heart. This square, lined with old houses, shops and public buildings, offers an authentic outdoor setting for a June day of hunting.

Archigny, Acadian Line village
Archigny's Acadian history is exceptional: in 1773, 58 Acadian families from Canada, after the Great Upheaval, settled in Poitou under the Marquis de Pérusse des Cars. They built a unique set of 58 farms aligned over 7 km — today's Acadian Line. Though the colony didn't endure, traces remain: the Maison de l'Acadie at La Puye tells the story, and several farms are still visible along the road.
Archigny regularly runs events linked to this history, notably the Fête Acadienne (separate from this flea market).
Vienne-Gartempe
At the heart of this fine region east of Poitiers. Wonders abound: Chauvigny and 5 medieval forts, Saint-Savin and its UNESCO Romanesque abbey (frescoes), La Roche-Posay (spa), Angles-sur-l'Anglin (Most Beautiful Village). A day at Archigny easily extends to these landmarks.
