The big May Day event with 150 sellers
La Puye is a small commune in the Vienne department, in the Vienne-Gartempe area, some thirty kilometres east of Poitiers and 15 km from Chauvigny. Despite its modest size (c. 700 inhabitants), the village organises each 1 May one of the largest flea markets of eastern Vienne, with 150 sellers. The 2026 edition takes place on Friday 1 May.
With 150 pitches, La Puye plays with the big names. Private sellers clearing attics, a few pro brocanteurs, occasionally craftspeople: the mix gives the event its eclectic character.
La Puye is known for hosting the mother house of the Daughters of the Cross (Saint-André), a 19th-century congregation. Its castle and chapel dominate the village. Rural identity, active community fabric.
Come early (from 7 am) for best deals. Cash recommended. A bag, tape measure, small torch can help. Early May weather can change — wear comfortable shoes and layers.
