Annual spring car boot sale organized by CAPHY on the Plateau d'Hymes in Auzits, Aveyron
Every year on the last Sunday of May, the Place du Plateau d'Hymes in Auzits comes alive for the car boot sale organized by CAPHY (Comité d'Animation du Plateau d'Hymes). From 8 am, exhibitors and treasure hunters gather in this small Aveyron hamlet for a friendly day dedicated to popular flea market finds. Individuals offer a wide variety of everyday items at low prices, in a relaxed and warm atmosphere.
The Plateau d'Hymes is located in the extreme north of the commune of Auzits, in northwestern Aveyron, 12 kilometers from Decazeville and 32 kilometers from Rodez. This hamlet is a remnant of the mining era of the Decazeville basin: its constructions gradually developed on either side of the old railway line connecting Decazeville to Mondalazac. The nearby village of Hymes, perched on the ridge with its old houses and beautiful cross, bears witness to a much older past. The commune of Auzits, a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays Rignacois, has 885 inhabitants spread over 2,434 hectares of green hills.
The Vide-Grenier du Plateau d'Hymes offers the authentic charm of rural Aveyron flea markets. On the stalls of individuals, treasure hunters discover old crockery and objects, clothing and accessories, toys and games, books and vinyl records, tools and gardening equipment, trinkets and decorative items. Bargains can be found from the early morning hours, in a village atmosphere where everyone knows each other.
CAPHY, a dynamic association that animates the life of the Plateau d'Hymes throughout the year, ensures that this day is also a moment of sharing. A refreshment stand is set up on the square and food is available by reservation, allowing visitors to eat between finds. The committee also organizes other events during the year, such as bingo nights at the Plateau d'Hymes village hall.
A visit to the car boot sale is also an opportunity to discover the heritage of Auzits. The Saint-Maurice church, a listed historic monument, houses a crypt adorned with 14th-century wall paintings, considered one of the jewels of the Aveyron Middle Ages. From the highest point of the commune at Hautesserre, a 360-degree panorama offers visitors views of the green hills of Rouergue.
The car boot sale takes place from 8:00 am on the Place du Plateau d'Hymes. Entry is free for visitors. The hamlet is accessible from Decazeville (12 km) or Rignac (about 10 km). Parking spaces are available on the outskirts of the square and the village hall.
