Villers-Bretonneux, Franco-Australian village

Villers-Bretonneux is a commune of about 4,500 inhabitants 15 km east of Amiens. It is famous as the site of a turning point in the Battle of the Somme in April 1918, when Australian troops liberated the village from German forces. The Australian National Memorial and the Victoria School, built with donations from the children of Victoria (Australia), testify to this lasting Franco-Australian friendship.
