Monthly car boot sale every 2nd Sunday in the Hurepoix countryside

Every 2nd Sunday of the month, Boissy-sous-Saint-Yon hosts its monthly car boot sale, a much-appreciated ritual for residents of the village and surrounding Hurepoix communities. Between 30 and 60 private sellers set up on the central square or indoors depending on the season, offering surplus household items: tableware, toys, books, clothing, trinkets, tools and miscellaneous goods.
Boissy-sous-Saint-Yon is a rural community of around 3,500 inhabitants, nestled in the Essonne Hurepoix between Montlhéry and Saint-Yon. The region historically had a tradition of viticulture on its sunny slopes before yielding to major wine regions in the 19th century. A few traces of this past — cellars, place names — remain today. The Hurepoix, stretching between the Beauce and Île-de-France, is characterised by vast cereal plains, isolated farms and villages built from the local millstone grit.
