Annual car boot sale in the village of Le Sel-de-Bretagne, a rural commune in southern Ille-et-Vilaine
Every year at the end of September, the village of Le Sel-de-Bretagne hosts its annual car boot sale in the streets of the center. Private sellers unpack their treasures — clothes, toys, books, dishes, trinkets, small furniture — to the delight of bargain hunters from southern Ille-et-Vilaine. This autumn event, organized in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, traditionally marks the end of the summer season in this small Breton village.
A commune of about 1,000 inhabitants located 30 km south of Rennes, Le Sel-de-Bretagne gets its name from the old salt marshes that existed in its territory. The village is located in the land of La Roche-aux-Fées, named after the famous Neolithic dolmen classified as a historic monument, one of the largest megaliths in France. This preserved rural area offers a peaceful living environment, between hedgerows, forests, and exceptional megalithic heritage.
Entry is free and a refreshment stand with food allows visitors to eat between finds. The setting of the village center, with its schist and granite houses, gives a special charm to this autumn bargain hunting day.
