Grand car boot sale organized by the Amis de l'Instruction Laïque at the Stade Georges Martin in Fuveau
The Vide-Grenier des AIL de Fuveau is an unmissable event of the back-to-school season in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Organized by the Amis de l'Instruction Laïque (AIL), a cultural and sports association located in the heart of this Provençal village between Aix-en-Provence and Gardanne, this event brings together several hundred private exhibitors each year at the Stade Georges Martin, at the foot of Avenue du 8 Mai 1945. Fuveau, a former town in the Provence mining basin, offers an authentic and warm setting for this open-air treasure hunt, where visitors and sellers share the pleasure of finding treasures at low prices.
Each year in September, the Stade Georges Martin in Fuveau transforms into a huge open-air flea market. The Vide-Grenier des AIL is organized by the Amis de l'Instruction Laïque, a historic association in Fuveau that animates the cultural and sports life of the village throughout the year with activities as varied as basketball, archery, modern jazz dance, theater, and manga classes. This car boot sale is one of the highlights of their associative calendar.
Nestled in the heights between Aix-en-Provence and Gardanne, Fuveau is a village of character in the Bouches-du-Rhône that has retained the imprint of its mining past. The Provence coal basin, of which Fuveau was one of the nerve centers, shaped the identity of this commune until the closure of the last mines in 2003. Today, the village seduces with its medieval streets, its tree-shaded Place Verminck, and its panorama of Montagne Sainte-Victoire. The AIL car boot sale is part of this tradition of conviviality and associative life that characterizes Fuveau.
The car boot sale exclusively brings together private exhibitors offering a wide variety of items: crockery and decorative objects, clothing and accessories, books and comics, toys and board games, small furniture, vinyl records and collectibles, tools and gardening equipment. The 3m x 2m pitch is offered at 15 euros, ensuring a dense and varied selection across the entire site.
The AIL association offers on-site catering throughout the day: pizzas, fries, churros, sandwiches, and coffee allow visitors to eat without leaving the site. This catering service contributes to the warm and family atmosphere of the event, where people take the time to stroll between the stalls under the Provençal sun.
The Vide-Grenier des AIL is part of a long tradition of popular events in Fuveau. The association also organizes the festival Jazz et Rock à 30 Gouttes, the Rencontres Théâtrales, and the Festival Manga Matsuri, all events that testify to the cultural dynamism of this Provençal village. The profits from the car boot sale help finance the numerous activities offered by the association throughout the year.
The car boot sale is reserved for individuals. Pitch reservations are made by email or phone with the AIL association. It is advisable to book in advance, as places are limited and in high demand. Entry is free for visitors, and the car boot sale is held from 9 am to 6 pm.
The Vide-Grenier des AIL de Fuveau returns on September 5 and 6, 2026, at the Stade Georges Martin. Organized by the Amis de l'Instruction Laïque, this event brings together private exhibitors and treasure hunters in an authentic Provençal setting, between Aix-en-Provence and Gardanne.
