Flea market, swap meet, and vintage vehicle gathering in the streets of Réquista, in the heart of the Ségala aveyronnais
Les Rencontres de Réquista are a major annual event that takes place over two days in the streets and squares of this bastide town in the Ségala region of Aveyron. Organized every September since 1988 by the association Auto Rétro Aveyronnais, this event brings together nearly 350 exhibitors along Avenue de Millau and in the town center for a vast flea market, a spare parts swap meet, and a gathering of vintage collector vehicles—cars, motorcycles, and tractors from the era. The event is more than just a simple flea market: street entertainment, a mini funfair, and on-site catering make it a festive and friendly gathering that attracts thousands of visitors each year from all over Aveyron and neighboring departments. Entry and access to the vintage vehicle parks are free for visitors.
Since 1988, the Rencontres de Réquista have transformed this small bastide town in Aveyron into a huge open-air market every September. Over two days, from 8 AM to 7 PM, the streets and squares of the town host nearly 350 exhibitors who set up their stalls along Avenue de Millau, in the town center squares, and in the adjacent streets. Professional dealers, individuals, and collectors offer a considerable range of goods: antique furniture, tableware, trinkets, tools, books, vinyl records, vintage clothing, automotive spare parts, and collectibles of all kinds.
The originality of Les Rencontres de Réquista lies in the combination of a large flea market with an inter-club gathering of vintage and collector vehicles. Organized by the association Auto Rétro Aveyronnais, based in Luc-la-Primaube, this event attracts enthusiasts of beautiful mechanics from all over Occitanie and the south of France. Visitors can admire collector automobiles from all eras, vintage motorcycles and mopeds, as well as vintage agricultural tractors that evoke the rural heritage of the Ségala. The owners, often passionate restorers, are happy to share the history of their machines and the details of their restoration work.
The swap meet is an essential part of Les Rencontres de Réquista. Vehicle restorers can find mechanical spare parts, period accessories, technical documentation, maintenance manuals, and manufacturer catalogs. For lovers of classic flea market finds, the swap meet also offers antique hardware, trade tools, enameled signs, advertising posters, and all sorts of objects related to the automotive and agricultural world of yesteryear. It's the ideal place to find that rare part needed for an ongoing restoration.
Réquista, whose name is said to come from the Occitan ric estar meaning "rich place," is a bastide founded in 1292 by Henri II, Count of Rodez, who granted it privileges recorded in the Charter of Réquista. The cantonal capital, located about thirty kilometers south of Rodez, this town of about 2,000 inhabitants is situated in the heart of the Ségala aveyronnais, a hilly region between the Tarn valleys and the Lévézou plateaus. The commune's economy is primarily based on agriculture—cattle and sheep farming, and the production of the renowned veal from Aveyron—and it hosts one of France's largest sheep markets every Monday morning. The bastide's architectural heritage, with its Saint-Pierre church, ancient alleys, and fountains, bears witness to seven centuries of history despite the ravages of the Hundred Years' War, the Wars of Religion, and the devastating fire of 1701.
Les Rencontres de Réquista are not limited to the flea market and vintage vehicles. For two days, the town comes alive with a mini funfair with rides and attractions for children, street entertainment that contributes to the festive atmosphere, and food stalls offering Aveyron's gastronomic specialties. The event is a moment of intergenerational conviviality where families, car enthusiasts, bargain hunters, and the simply curious gather in a warm atmosphere. On-site catering allows visitors to extend their stay and fully enjoy this exceptional weekend in the heart of Rouergue.
Access to Les Rencontres de Réquista is completely free for visitors, whether for the flea market, the swap meet, or the vintage vehicle parks. For exhibitors, registration is done on the day in front of the town hall, from 6 AM to 10 AM, at a cost of 10 euros for both days. This affordable pricing, for both visitors and exhibitors, contributes to the popular success of this event, which, in nearly four decades, has become a must-attend fixture on the Aveyron calendar.
The 39th Rencontres de Réquista will be held on September 11 and 12, 2026, on Avenue de Millau and in the streets of the town center of Réquista (12170). Flea market, swap meet, vintage collector vehicle gathering, street entertainment, mini funfair, and on-site catering. Nearly 350 exhibitors expected. Free entry.
Réquista is located about 30 km south of Rodez via the D902 and about 50 km north of Millau via the D992. Free parking in the surrounding streets and on the outskirts of the town.
