The autumn car boot sale by Lake Vouglans
The village of Villards-d'Héria, a small commune in the southern Jura, organizes a car boot sale in the village streets every October. From 8 am to 5 pm, private sellers offer a variety of second-hand items to bargain hunters from the region.
Unlike most Jura car boot sales held in spring or summer, the Villards-d'Héria event stands out with its autumn schedule. In October, the colors of the surrounding forests add a special charm to this day of treasure hunting. Stalls offer crockery, clothes, toys, books, trinkets, and small furniture at very affordable prices.
Villards-d'Héria is a rural commune in the south of the Jura, located near Lake Vouglans and Lake d'Antre. The village is known for its Gallo-Roman archaeological site on the shores of Lake d'Antre, a testament to the region's ancient occupation. The natural setting of forests and hills makes it a popular spot for hikers.
The choice of October for this car boot sale is wise: it allows for a last outdoor outing before the harshness of the Jura winter. The autumn colors of the forests surrounding Villards-d'Héria provide a magnificent backdrop for this treasure hunting day. Sellers often offer items typical of the Jura mountains: artisanal knives, wooden cheese boxes, old earthenware, carpentry and turning tools, books on local history. Visitors can combine this flea market outing with a walk along the shores of Lake d'Antre, a remarkable archaeological site where the remains of a Gallo-Roman sanctuary bear witness to two millennia of human occupation in this enchanting valley.
