Car boot sales and artisanal market in the heart of the sculpted village of Fransèches
Every May 1st, the village of Fransèches comes alive to host its car boot sale and artisanal market, organized by the FLD Association. Individuals and artisans mingle along the village streets, offering second-hand items, artisanal creations, and local products from the Creuse region. From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., bargain hunters and strollers wander between the stalls in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
Fransèches owes much of its fame to the hamlet of Masgot, a remarkable site classified for its 19th-century granite sculptures created by François Michaud, a visionary stonemason and farmer. These naive artworks adorn the facades, lintels, and low walls of the hamlet, forming a unique open-air museum in Limousin. The commune also has a 13th-century church and offers a typical panorama of the Millevaches plateau, between hedgerows, forests, and pastures.
Beyond the car boot sale, the event highlights the artisans and producers of the Creuse region. Potters, jewelers, textile designers, and producers of honey, jams, or goat cheese offer their specialties, making this day a gourmet and artisanal event. Refreshments and fast food, provided by the association, allow for a pleasant extension of the visit.
Stall space is free for the first 4 linear meters, then charged at 1 euro per additional meter. Advance registration is mandatory. A coffee is offered to exhibitors upon arrival. Nearby parking and on-site restrooms complete the facilities of this well-established event.
