This commune in the Gapençais region, famous for its aerodrome and its castle classified as a historic monument, offers a remarkable setting for a day of treasure hunting. The Château de Tallard, a medieval fortress overlooking the Durance valley, is one of the most beautiful monuments in the Hautes-Alpes.
The Place Porte Belle in Tallard hosts an annual car boot sale at the foot of the famous medieval castle. Exhibitors offer objects, clothes, and trinkets in an exceptional heritage setting, under the ramparts of this 14th-century fortress.
Tallard is a commune in the Gapençais region located in the Durance valley, a few kilometers south of Gap. The town is known for two major assets: its medieval castle, classified as a historic monument, an imposing fortress from the 13th-14th centuries overlooking the valley, and its aerodrome, one of the most important centers for gliding and parachuting in France, renowned for its exceptional aerological conditions.
Exhibitors offer a wide range of second-hand items: old tableware, trinkets, frames and mirrors, books and magazines, toys, clothes, small appliances, tools, sports equipment, vinyl records and CDs, linens, and decorative objects. In the Hautes-Alpes, you can also regularly find typical mountain objects: old agricultural tools, cowbells, Savoyard furniture, vintage skis, snowshoes, and hiking equipment. Prices, generally very attractive, make these car boot sales an economical and ecological alternative to buying new.
The department of Hautes-Alpes, the least populated in metropolitan France, compensates for its low density with a particularly dynamic associative life. From March to October, car boot sales and flea markets punctuate the life of the Alpine villages, offering as many opportunities to hunt for treasures as to meet neighbors. The summer season, with the influx of tourists and holidaymakers, multiplies the opportunities: passing visitors gladly stop to rummage through the stalls, sometimes discovering unsuspected Alpine treasures. The exceptional mountain setting of the department adds a unique dimension to these events, with grandiose panoramas and the pure air of the peaks.
The Château de Tallard, with its towers, curtain walls, and chapel, provides a spectacular backdrop for this summer car boot sale. Visitors can combine treasure hunting with a visit to the castle and a walk through the old village.
