The back-to-school flea market in a Carmaux-basin village
The Taïx flea market traditionally closes the summer season of major Carmausin flea markets. Held on a Sunday in September, it offers those who didn't find their treasure in summer one last chance to do deals before the season ends. Organised by local volunteers, it draws around 60 sellers, mostly locals.
Classic rural flea market bric-a-brac: adult and children's clothing, toys, books, baby gear, school items (welcome in September), crockery, small furniture, tools, trinkets. Among more typical Carmausin finds: farming and mining tools, old farm utensils, old newspapers and photographs, local advertising objects. Gentle prices, relaxed atmosphere, polite negotiation.
Taïx is a small commune of about 400 residents in the Albi arrondissement and Carmaux-Sud canton, at an average altitude of 300 m. Typical rural northern Tarn village, it nestles between slopes and woods, a few kilometres from Carmaux and the historic mining basin.
The Taïx flea market unfolds in the pleasant village setting, usually around the community hall or centre depending on the year. A human-scale event where you take your time, chat with sellers, enjoy the late-summer sun on Tarn stones. To extend perhaps with a visit to nearby Carmaux, Cagnac-les-Mines (Mining Museum) or further to Monestiés and Cordes-sur-Ciel.
Taïx is 5 km east of Carmaux and 20 km north of Albi. Reach via D90 from Carmaux. Village parking.
Usual morning event, generally 8am to 5pm. Free entry.
Around 60 sellers, mainly local private sellers.
Refreshments and light catering by volunteers and the festival committee.
