Annual garage sale organized by the community centres of Meyzieu, a town in eastern Lyon
The Meyzieu Community Centres Garage Sale is one of the popular events in the town's community calendar. Organized by Meyzieu's community centres, it brings together dozens of private sellers each year and welcomes several hundred visitors. The event takes place outdoors in a dedicated space and offers a wide range of second-hand items in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere.
Community centres (centres sociaux) are local social development and animation structures approved by the Family Benefits Office. In Meyzieu, they play a crucial role in residents' lives: early childhood care, tutoring, cultural and sports activities, job placement support, food aid... The garage sale is one of the events that helps them fund their activities while strengthening social bonds among local residents. It is part of the social and solidarity economy ethos central to community centre values.
The community centres' garage sale is open to all residents of Meyzieu and neighbouring towns. Men's, women's and children's clothing, toys and board games, books for all ages, electronics, tools, crockery, ornaments, décor and furniture: the offering is wide and varied. Prices, set freely by sellers, are generally very affordable.
