A May 1st car boot sale in aid of local basketball

The Otterswiller Car Boot Sale is organised each year on May 1st by the WOSB - Wasselonne Otterswiller Saverne Basket, a very active sports club in the Saverne area. This spring event mobilises volunteers, players, youngsters and parents of the club around a collective project: enlivening the commune and collecting funds to finance the sports activities and projects of the club. Set up at the Otterswiller multipurpose hall and its surroundings, the car boot sale brings together around 100 private exhibitors who display their treasures from the morning to offer them to bargain hunters at low prices. The family and sports atmosphere characteristic of associative events is there, as are the refreshment stand and catering - tartes flambées, fries, grilled sausages, drinks - run by club volunteers for the direct benefit of young basketball players.

A wide variety of items to hunt for

Visitors find on the exhibitors' stalls a great diversity of items at low prices: adult and children's clothing, shoes, fashion accessories, toys for all ages (soft toys, board games, figurines, dolls, educational games), books (novels, comics, children's books), CDs, DVDs, vinyls, video games, decorative trinkets, crockery, glassware, small furniture, childcare items, sports equipment, bicycles, scooters, DIY and gardening tools. The diversity and quality of the items offered testify to the involvement of residents in this convivial event which has become a spring tradition eagerly awaited by bargain hunters in the area.

Otterswiller and the Saverne area

Otterswiller is an Alsatian commune of around 1,800 inhabitants, located in the Saverne area, a few kilometres south-east of the main town. It is part of the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Saverne and benefits from a privileged position at the exit of the Saverne pass tunnel, at the gateway to the Vosges foothills and the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park. The village retains a residential and green character, with its Alsatian houses, its church and its sports and cultural facilities. The WOSB, basketball club grouping Wasselonne, Otterswiller and Saverne, is one of the living forces of local sport and runs several youth and senior teams engaged in regional championships. Its May 1st car boot sale is one of the rendezvous that marks the associative life of the commune.
