The car boot sale in the heart of the Chartreuse village

The Sou des Écoles of Saint-Nicolas-de-Macherin organizes its traditional car boot sale every autumn around the village church. The event unfolds in the streets and squares of the village center, offering a picturesque Chartreuse village setting for exhibitors and visitors. Individuals offer the classic assortment of second-hand items: clothing for all ages, toys, dishes, books and comics, trinkets, small furniture, tools, records, and various decorative objects. The atmosphere is that of a real village festival.

A preserved rural village at the foot of the Chartreuse

Saint-Nicolas-de-Macherin is a small rural municipality of about 1,200 inhabitants, nestled on the foothills of the Chartreuse between Voiron and Saint-Laurent-du-Pont. The village has fully retained its rural character with its church in the center of the town, its cut stone farms, its old barns, and its landscapes of green hills dotted with walnut trees. It is in this preserved and authentic setting that the car boot sale takes place, giving the event a special charm not found in urban flea markets. The view of the first peaks of the Chartreuse adds a scenic dimension to this day of treasure hunting.

Modern organization and online registration

The Sou des Écoles has modernized its organization by offering registration exclusively online via the HelloAsso platform, from August 1st to October 3rd. This system simplifies management and allows exhibitors to book their spot from home. Those who book 8 linear meters or more can park their vehicle directly at their spot, a significant practical advantage. On the day of the event, parking is prohibited around the village center and the church from 2 AM to 7 PM to make way for the stalls.

For the benefit of the school children

The profits from the car boot sale are donated to the Sou des Écoles to fund school projects: educational outings, discovery classes, shows, and equipment. Refreshments and food on site, run by volunteer parents, complete the revenue from this solidarity and festive day.
