The summer flea market of the firefighters at the foot of the Chartreuse
The flea market and car boot sale of the Sapeurs-Pompiers of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont is held every late August at the Notre-Dame du Château chapel. From 9 am to 6 pm, bargain hunters stroll between the stalls of the flea market and car boot sale in a green setting at the foot of the Chartreuse massif. Entry is free and catering is available on site with crepes, hot-dogs, fries, merguez and godiveaux. Inflatable games are offered for children.
Every late summer, the firefighters of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont organize their annual flea market and car boot sale in a remarkable setting. The event takes place at the Notre-Dame du Château chapel, a high-altitude site offering a breathtaking view of the village, the Guiers Mort valley, and the cliffs of the Chartreuse massif. This exceptional setting gives this flea market a very special charm not found in any other car boot sale in the region. Exhibitors, a mix of individuals and small antique dealers, offer crockery, trinkets, clothes, toys, books, tools, and various objects.
The firefighters make it a point of honor to offer a friendly and family-friendly day. The on-site catering is varied and generous: sweet and savory crepes, hot-dogs, fries, grilled merguez, and godiveaux — this Chartrousine charcuterie specialty that is the pride of the local terroirs — satisfy the appetites of hungry bargain hunters. Children are not left out thanks to the inflatable structures specially set up for them, allowing them to have fun while parents calmly explore the flea market stalls.
The funds raised during this day are entirely donated to the Amicale des Sapeurs-Pompiers of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont. They help finance the social and festive activities of the fire station, acquire additional equipment, and carry out solidarity actions for the families of firefighters. Participating in this flea market also means supporting those who watch over the safety of residents and tourists in the Chartreuse massif day and night, a mountain territory where rescue interventions are particularly demanding.
The Notre-Dame du Château chapel is located high above the village of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont. Parking is available nearby. The flea market is held from 9 am to 6 pm, and entry is free. Take advantage of your visit to admire the exceptional panorama of the Chartreuse from this historic site.
