The great May Day browsing in the Dunes bastide
Dunes (82340) is a charming bastide in western Tarn-et-Garonne, on the borders of Gascony and Lot-et-Garonne. Its lovely tree-lined central square and narrow lanes of old houses make an ideal setting for this 1 May tradition.
Three events in one: traditional private sellers' flea market, dealers' puces and a craft market with local creators. This diversity ensures varied stalls.
The centre of Dunes is fully pedestrianised that day. Exhibitors set up around the central square and adjoining streets. The square's trees offer welcome shade.
Explore the Tarn-et-Garonne Lomagne: bastides, Gascon farms, hill landscapes. Dunes, midway between Auvillar and Agen, is an ideal starting point. Local gastronomy: white garlic, melons, Reine-Claude plums, foie gras.
1 May is a holiday: arrive early. Bring cash, big bag, good shoes. May weather is mild but variable: a windbreaker can help.
