A rural bargain hunt at the foot of northern Ventoux
With around 200 inhabitants, Aurel is one of the smallest villages in Vaucluse. Its Ascension flea market on Thursday 14 May 2026 reflects the village: modest, authentic, human-scale. A few dozen exhibitors gather in the centre lanes.
Stalls are run by villagers and by exhibitors from neighbouring communes of the Albion plateau and the pays de Sault. Alongside classic bric-a-brac, more specific rural objects appear: farming tools, cattle bells, wicker baskets and countryside pottery.
Aurel (840 metres altitude) sits on a shelf at the junction of the northern slope of Mont Ventoux and the Albion plateau. Surrounding lavender fields transform the plateau into a vast blue checkerboard in June-July.
The Aurel flea market is a perfect occasion to discover a corner of Vaucluse still little-known to tourists. Local farms produce renowned lavender honey and goat cheese.

Lanes of Aurel village, 84390. From Sault (10 km) or Carpentras via the Nesque gorges.
