A centuries-old fair in a listed medieval village

Every year, on the Sunday closest to October 28th, Saint-Simon's Day, the village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain hosts its famous Marché de la Saint-Simon. Classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, this medieval town perched on a rocky spur in Auxois offers an exceptional setting for this traditional fair that combines flea market, crafts, gastronomy, and short circuits.

Four themes for a day of discovery

The Marché de la Saint-Simon is organized around four hubs. Flea market vendors set up from 9 am in the medieval alleys, offering antiques, trinkets, old tableware, and curiosities. Artisans present their creations: basketry, dried flowers, jewelry, ironwork, sculptures. Local producers offer a panorama of Burgundian gastronomy: charcuterie, farm cheeses, honey, jams, pastries, walnuts, and the famous Anis de Flavigny, which can be tasted in the Carolingian crypt of the former abbey. Wines from the Domaine de Flavigny-Alésia and beers from the Brasserie de Flavigny complete this gastronomic offering. On-site catering available.

Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, a jewel of Auxois

Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, a village of 300 inhabitants, is a jewel of Burgundian heritage. Perched at an altitude of 400 meters, the village retains its ramparts, fortified gates, turreted houses, and its abbey founded in the 8th century. This is where Anis de Flavigny has been made since 1591, in the buildings of the former abbey. The Marché de la Saint-Simon perpetuates a centuries-old tradition: in the past, when Flavigny was a cantonal capital, people from the region would meet at this market to trade their produce.

Entertainment and conviviality

Free entertainment and concerts punctuate the day from 9 am until nightfall. Free horse-drawn carriages and shuttle buses provide transport between the parking lot and the village. Entrance and parking cost €3 per vehicle, with a small case of Anis offered by the Fabrique. The Marché de la Saint-Simon attracts several thousand visitors each year, seduced by the unique atmosphere of this medieval village in celebration.
