Krautergersheim, a small commune of about 1,800 inhabitants located in the heart of the Alsatian plain, is known as the Alsatian capital of sauerkraut. Its very name comes from the Alsatian word Kraut, meaning "cabbage". Surrounded by vast fields of sauerkraut cabbage, the commune has perpetuated for centuries the tradition of growing and processing cabbage, an activity that has shaped its identity and landscape. The village retains a charming rural Alsatian heritage with its half-timbered houses, its church, and its picturesque streets. The flea market, whose name literally means "Krautergersheim flea market" in Alsatian, is a traditional event that attracts bargain hunters and curious visitors from all over the region.
Beyond bargain hunting, the Krautergersheim flea market is a true moment of sharing and conviviality. A refreshment stand and light food service are set up on site throughout the day to allow visitors to take a gourmet break. Alsatian specialties are often featured: tarte flambée, grilled sausages, pretzels, and refreshments. The event attracts thousands of visitors from all over the Bas-Rhin and beyond, enjoying the festive atmosphere and Alsatian hospitality.
