The spring flea market of the Ham Est neighborhood committee
The May Ham Flea Market is organized by the Ham Est neighborhood committee. This spring event welcomes around 120 exhibitors each year in the streets of this small Santerre town, in the east of the Somme department. An eagerly awaited rendezvous for residents and hunters from neighboring communes, in a friendly atmosphere. Free admission.
Every May, the town of Ham hosts a flea market organized by the Ham Est neighborhood committee. With its 120 exhibitors, the event is one of the major bargain hunting rendezvous in the east of the Somme. Streets and squares of the East district are covered with stalls from early morning, and hunters stroll all day looking for finds: old furniture, tableware, linen, trinkets, books, toys, clothes or tools.
The event owes its longevity to the commitment of the Ham Est neighborhood committee volunteers, who mobilize to welcome exhibitors and visitors in the best conditions. Exhibitor registration, signage, refreshments and food: everything is set up so the event takes place in the friendly spirit that characterizes Picardy flea markets.
Located in the east of the Somme department, Ham is a small town of around 5,000 inhabitants which owes its historical notoriety to its medieval castle, formerly a state prison where Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte was detained before his spectacular escape in 1846. Today the town lives to the rhythm of its shops, markets and associative events.
With 120 exhibitors, the Ham flea market offers real diversity: private sellers clearing attics alongside some professionals offering antiques, second-hand furniture or specialized collections. Collectors find happiness in boxes of old postcards, vinyls or vintage toys.
Beyond bargain hunting, the Ham flea market is a real popular festival. Residents and visitors meet, exchange and share a coffee, sandwich or fries at the associative refreshment stand. The atmosphere mixes generations and origins.
