Autumn flea market in the town of the medieval fortress
The Ham Flea Market takes place on Sunday 13 September 2026 in this small historic town of eastern Somme, famed for its ancient fortress and industrial past. The event gathers private sellers and dealers in the town centre. Free entry for visitors, a convivial day of bargain hunting in the heart of the Santerre, in a typically Picard atmosphere combining rural tradition and urban heritage.
Ham, a commune of about 5,000 inhabitants in eastern Somme, is famous for its medieval fortress from which Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte escaped in 1846, disguised as a worker. It is in this historic setting that the flea market is held on Sunday 13 September 2026. Rooted in the Picard calendar, the event brings together exhibitors from all over the Santerre and beyond, for a day dedicated to treasure hunting.
The Ham flea market welcomes a mix of private sellers emptying attics and cellars, and professional dealers from the region. You will typically find Picard-style furniture, antique tableware, books, records, tools, household linen, vintage clothing and countless curios. Collectors enjoy the range of affordable small pieces and the good-natured atmosphere typical of these late-summer events.
Stalls are set up in the streets and squares of the town centre, enlivening local shops and nearby cafés. On-site catering (fries, sausages, drinks) rounds out the offer and makes it easy to spend a full day here. The atmosphere is that of a small Picard town coming together: families, neighbours and longtime residents come both to hunt bargains and to meet up.
Located on the banks of the canalised Somme, Ham is now a sub-prefecture with rich heritage: the fortress ruins, the 12th-century collegiate church of Notre-Dame and the 19th-century town hall. A stroll around town after the flea market extends the discovery of this little-known corner of the department. Easy access via the RN29 from Saint-Quentin or Péronne.
