End-of-summer event at the foot of the Black Mountain
At the foot of the Black Mountain, the listed village of Sorèze holds each summer its great flea market. The narrow lanes of this heritage town, surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage Abbey-school, welcome exhibitors and hunters for a day of hunting in the Pays de Cocagne spirit. A must-attend stop on the Tarn summer calendar.
At the edge of Tarn and southern Black Mountain, Sorèze (81540) is a listed village of rare charm, backed by an abbey founded in 754. Its jewel: the Abbey-school of Sorèze, UNESCO World Heritage. The town has preserved its medieval plan with beautiful half-timbered houses.
Organized by Sorèze festival committee, the Great annual flea market takes place in the village heart. Stalls spread along paved streets. Setup 8am, closing 6pm.
Individuals predominate with the usual range: crockery, clothing, toys, books, decoration, small furniture, records, tools, jewellery, childcare. Several semi-professionals offer country furniture and old Tarn crockery.
The late-August date gives the event its special flavour. Visit the Abbey-school, Dom Robert Museum, Berniquaut peak or Saint-Ferréol lake.
