Saissac is one of the most impressive villages in the Aude. Perched on a rocky outcrop at over 600 meters altitude, on the border of the Montagne Noire and the Languedoc plain, the village overlooks an exceptional panorama that on clear days extends to the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. Above the village stand the imposing ruins of the Cathar castle of Saissac, a medieval fortress that was one of the refuges for Cathar perfects during the Albigensian Crusade. The village itself, with its granite and schist houses, paved alleys, and old washhouses, is classified among the beautiful villages of the region.
The unique feature of the Saissac car boot sale lies in its absolutely exceptional setting. Stalls are set up on the main square or in the village alleys, at 600 meters altitude, with the Languedoc plain below and the wooded peaks of the Montagne Noire as a backdrop. In August, while the plain is overwhelmed by heat, Saissac benefits from a cool and pleasant temperature, making the car boot sale visit particularly enjoyable.

August in Saissac promises a pleasant day in the cool air of the Montagne Noire. At 600 meters altitude, temperatures are significantly milder than in the plain, making this village a popular refuge for summer visitors. The car boot sale benefits from this mild climate and the influx of holidaymakers to gather a large crowd in an exceptional natural and heritage setting.
After the car boot sale, visitors can explore the ruins of the Cathar castle, walk on the hiking trails of the Montagne Noire, visit the Galaube lake, or discover other Cathar villages in the region: Lastours, Montolieu (village of books), or the medieval City of Carcassonne, accessible in 30 minutes.
