Flea market organized by the Gertwiller Firefighters' Association in the heart of the Alsatian capital of gingerbread
The Gertwiller Firefighters' Association Flea Market is an essential event on the Alsatian flea market calendar. Held each year in June on the Rue Principale of the village, it takes over the historic heart of the wine-growing commune, among half-timbered houses and traditional cellars. The event is organized by the Gertwiller Firefighters' Association, which mobilizes all its volunteers.
Over several hundred meters, the stalls offer a wide variety of items: antiques, rustic furniture, knick-knacks, crockery and porcelain, old toys, books, comics, vinyl records, vintage clothing, tools, postcards, linens, lights, small furniture and collectibles. Exhibitor rates are affordable: 18 € for 6 meters for private sellers and 30 € for 6 meters for professionals.
Throughout the day, the bar and food stand run by the association's volunteers welcome visitors with regional specialties: grilled meats, fries, ham in Riesling sauce, flammekueche, pretzels, local beers and cold drinks.
Gertwiller is a village of about 1,300 inhabitants located on the Alsace Wine Route, at the foot of the Barr vineyards. Famous since the 18th century for its gingerbread tradition, the commune is home to several artisan bakeries, including the oldest, Maison Lips, founded in 1806, and the Gingerbread and Alsatian Folk Art Museum.
