33rd edition of the Ascension Day flea market in Goxwiller, organised by the Tradition et Culture association
The 33rd Goxwiller Flea Market is a traditional Ascension Day event in Alsace. Organised by the Tradition et Culture association since 1994, it is one of the very first flea markets in the Bas-Rhin to be held on Ascension Day, a pioneer in the Alsatian brocante calendar. From 6am, exhibitors fill the heart of this charming wine village situated between Barr and Obernai, on the Alsace Wine Route. Hundreds of bargain hunters flock to browse stands laden with clothing, toys, trinkets, crockery, small furniture, tools, books, vinyls and collectibles. Registration is available online, by post, or directly on site from 6am on the day. Refreshments and catering provided by the Tradition et Culture volunteers complete this festive day in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard.
The Goxwiller Flea Market holds a special place in the Bas-Rhin brocante landscape: created in 1994 by the Tradition et Culture association, it is one of the very first flea markets to have been positioned on Ascension Day, that Thursday public holiday in May traditionally devoted to outings, village fêtes and outdoor events. For over three decades, this event has continued to grow, from a few dozen exhibitors to a reference event attracting bargain hunters and walkers from across the Vosges foothills. The 33rd edition confirms the vitality of this tradition, driven by a team of passionate volunteers supported by the commune of Goxwiller.
Goxwiller is a small wine village in the Bas-Rhin of around 800 inhabitants, nestled between Barr and Obernai at the foot of the Vosges, on the route of the famous Alsace Wine Route. The village charms with its lanes lined with half-timbered houses, flowered courtyards, wine-tasting cellars and the tranquillity of its vineyard setting. The flea market takes advantage of this enchanting environment: stands line the village streets, between vines and Alsatian houses, offering visitors a unique experience combining heritage, nature and bargain hunting pleasure. Local winemakers sometimes take the opportunity to open their cellars, adding an oenological dimension to the day.
The Tradition et Culture de Goxwiller association is the driving force of the village's cultural and heritage life. Founded to preserve and transmit Alsatian traditions, it organises cultural events, exhibitions, village fêtes and this flea market, its flagship event, throughout the year. Exhibitor registration is facilitated by an online system, but it is also possible to register directly on site from 6am on the day of the event, ensuring maximum accessibility. The proceeds from the event are entirely dedicated to the association's cultural activities and the preservation of Goxwiller heritage.
