The Fête de la Grenouille: Bonnat's Easter tradition

For decades, Bonnat has celebrated the frog during a popular festival that takes place every year on Easter weekend. This town of about 1,300 inhabitants, located in northern Creuse about fifteen kilometers from Guéret, lives to the rhythm of this event which combines a fair, flea market, gastronomy, and festivities.

A flea market and car boot sale at the heart of the festival

On Easter Sunday, the Place du Foirail and the streets of Bonnat host a large car boot sale open all day. Individuals and professionals set up their stalls to offer second-hand items, clothes, toys, dishes, trinkets, and curiosities to bargain hunters. The fair, which runs concurrently for three days, attracts a large crowd from all over Creuse and neighboring departments.

Frog legs and popular ball

The Fête de la Grenouille would not be complete without its gastronomic traditions. The sale of frog legs to take away begins at 7 PM and is the culinary highlight of the event. A musical parade goes through the village streets starting at 3:30 PM, then a popular ball with fireworks concludes the evening at the village hall from 8 PM. All of this makes for a festive weekend that perpetuates a Creuse tradition deeply rooted in the local calendar.
