Each year in June, the association Genouillac en Fête organizes a car boot sale on the commune's sports field, route des Mousseaux. From 7 a.m., exhibitors set up their stalls to offer furniture, trinkets, tableware, toys, books, and second-hand items to early bargain hunters. The event continues until 6 p.m., offering a long day of good deals.
Genouillac is an old bastide founded in the 13th century by Hugues de Lusignan, Count of La Marche. Its characteristic grid plan, medieval streets, and remains of its fortifications bear witness to this origin. The commune, with about 800 inhabitants, is located in the southeast of Creuse, near the Allier department. The Saint-Martial church and the old houses of the village form a charming architectural ensemble for a day of strolling.
At only 1 euro per linear meter, the Genouillac car boot sale offers one of the lowest rates in Creuse, attracting both individuals looking to clear out their attics and regular flea market traders. Food and drink on site allow visitors to spend a full day in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.
Genouillac is located in a hilly landscape of hedgerows, between pastures and deciduous woods. Heritage enthusiasts can extend their visit by discovering the surrounding villages: Bétête and its medieval bridge, Boussac and its castle overlooking the Petite Creuse, or the gorges of the Tardes, an affluent of the Cher that has carved out a spectacular granite canyon.
