Car boot sale organized by the Descartes judo club, hometown of the philosopher in Southern Touraine
Every spring, the Descartes judo club takes over the town center of this small town in southern Indre-et-Loire to organize its annual car boot sale. From 8 a.m., exhibitors set up their stalls and offer a wide selection of everyday items: clothes, toys, books, crockery, trinkets, tools, and small furniture. The car boot sale is often part of a larger festive weekend, with funfair, rides, and entertainment that attract families from all over the region.
Formerly known as La Haye-Descartes, the town of Descartes is famous for being the birthplace of the philosopher and mathematician René Descartes in 1596. His birthplace, now a museum, is one of the cultural attractions of this small town located at the confluence of the Creuse and Claise rivers. The tree-lined quays, old houses, and medieval streets offer a charming setting for a day of bargain hunting and strolling.
In Southern Touraine, sports clubs are pillars of community life. The Descartes judo club trains many young people and actively participates in the town's events. Organizing the car boot sale helps to finance the club's activities—licenses, equipment, competition travel—while creating a moment of conviviality appreciated by all residents.
